Chamberlain College of Nursing to Host ‘Nurses’ Night at the Ballpark’ with St. Louis Cardinals Local nursing student to throw ceremonial first pitch at tonight’s game

ST. LOUIS—May 16, 2011—To celebrate the contributions of devoted nurses and nurse educators, Chamberlain College of Nursing is teaming up with the St. Louis Cardinals to host the third annual “Nurses’ Night at the Ballpark” at Busch Stadium on May 16. In honor of local nurses, Chamberlain College of Nursing student and St. Louis resident Deborah Stewart will throw the ceremonial first pitch of the game. As a proud advocate for the nursing profession, Chamberlain College of Nursing sponsors “Nurses’ Night at the Ballpark” annually, as a way to recognize and thank all the nurses of the St. Louis area who play a critical role in the lives of their patients. 

“At Chamberlain College of Nursing, we appreciate nurses for their commitment to continually improving patient care and for being on the frontlines of providing quality care to communities across Missouri,” said Susan Groenwald, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Nurses’ Night at the Ballpark’ provides us the opportunity to acknowledge the immense contributions made by dedicated nursing professionals who approach their work with commitment and compassion.”

For “Nurses’ Night at the Ballpark,” Chamberlain and the Cardinals are providing discounted tickets to local nurses and healthcare professionals, who are also invited to a pre-game celebration in Ford Plaza at the stadium beginning at 4:15 p.m. with prizes, goody bags, music and activities. Deborah Stewart, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Chamberlain College of Nursing’s St. Louis campus, was chosen to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Cardinals game after winning an essay contest held by Chamberlain. The contest invited Chamberlain’s St. Louis students to explain how the future state of nursing will improve patient outcomes. In her contest-winning essay, Stewart explained that new technologies and the vast knowledge that new nurses are required to obtain prior to entering the field will help improve the state of nursing and patient care.

“Being selected to throw out the first pitch at Chamberlain College of Nursing’s ‘Nurses Night at the Ballpark’ is an honor,” stated Stewart. “Nurses are the heart of the healthcare system, and it is a privilege to represent the future of nursing to the thousands of baseball fans across the country.”
