Chamberlain College of Nursing Welcomes First Class

ADDISON, Illinois – March 17, 2008 – Faculty and staff at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Addison officially welcomed their first class at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and luncheon reception for faculty, staff and students last week.

“We are thrilled to welcome the first class of students to Chamberlain College of Nursing’s new campus,” said Jan Snow, dean of Chamberlain’s Addison campus. “These men and women are taking the first step toward a rewarding career in nursing, and we welcome them to the Chamberlain family.”

The National Center for Health Workforce Analysis of the Health Resources Services Administration predicts that the U.S. will have almost 1 million fewer registered nurses than it needs by the year 2020. According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the shortage in Illinois is predicted to reach more than 21,000 nurses by 2020. Yet, the state’s capacity to educate and train new nurses is not keeping up with this growing need. In 2006, more than 1,100 qualified applicants were denied entrance to Illinois nursing schools due to a lack of capacity.

Chamberlain College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree program at its new Addison campus, which is co-located with DeVry University at 1221 N. Swift Road. The College’s Addison facility features 6,000 square feet of state-of-the-art nursing skills laboratories. Chamberlain also offers a fast-track RN-to-BSN online degree completion program that allows registered nurses to support their professional growth by earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing in as few as three semesters. This flexible program enables students nationwide to complete their coursework online.

By providing nursing education programs that feature both a broad educational foundation and an extensive clinical practice component, Chamberlain is fulfilling its commitment of preparing compassionate and clinically proficient nurses, as well as fostering personal growth, career mobility, community service and leadership among healthcare professionals.

Chamberlain College of Nursing is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Its bachelor of science in nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
